The days of Prof. Vladimir Shevtsov's school

His work was recognized with the highest titles such as the Honoured doctor of the Russian Federation, Honoured citizen of Russia, Russia's personality 2007 but the dearest title for him is to be human and help other people recover their health.

Professor Vladimir Ivanovich Shevtsov, general director of RISC RTO, celebrated his 70th birthday on December 30. The days of Prof. Shevtsov's school were dedicated to his jubilee. The scientific and practical conference took place on December 26 in the Center's conference hall.

The conference was opened with the speech of Prof. V. Shevtov. He showed the evolution of the Ilizarov apparatus and the latest developments such as semi-automated compression distraction fixator for limb lengthening, a hinge unit for compression distraction apparatus, a construct for management of congernital hip dislocation in children, a bioimplant for filling defects of mineralized tissues, and a unit for tubular bone fixation. The presentations were also delivered by the colleagues from the Center, scientists and doctors from around Russia.

Vladimir Ivanovich Shevtsov

General director of RISC RTO, doctor of medicine, honored scientist of RF, corresponding member of the Russian academy of medical sciences, professor.

He was born on December 30, 1938 in the village of Cherkassy, Orenburg oblast. After graduation from the Orenburg medical institute in 1963 he worked as a surgeon and later chief doctor of the Yurgamysh local hospital in the Kurgan oblast.

In 1969, he started his career at the Kurgan research institute for experimental and clinical orthopaedics and traumatology (now RISC RTO) headed by G.A. Ilizarov at that time. Since 1992 he has been heading this famous in the world orthopaedic institution. He is author of 28 books, more than 1000 articles including 25 in foreign journals. He is an author or co-author in 95 patents and certificates on invented techniques.

He was distinguished with government orders and medals such as the Order for Merits before Motherland, IV grade; medals For Merits in National Healthcare, For Labour Valour, Vernardsky Star II grade, Koch's medal of the European Academy of Natural Sciences (Germany). He is a holder of the national award Russia's personality of the year in the field of science and healthcare. He is included into the ABI edition Great minds of the 21st century.
