International Meeting of Japanese Society of Plastic Surgery was held on April 9-12 in Tokyo.
Delegates of the Ilizarov Center, Natalia Gennadievna Shikhaleva, Cand. Sci. (Med.), Chief of department and Alla Vladimirovna Erchenko, Head of scientific medical international department were invited by the Japanese side to attend the 50th anniversary meeting of Japanese Society of Plastic Surgery on April 9-12 in Tokyo. Presentations on minifixation in reconstructive hand surgery made by N.G.Shikhaleva at the international meeting were a great success. Japanese orthopaedic surgeons always point out originality and high quality of treatment techniques devised and applied at the Kurgan Center, and they show interest in further cooperation. The delegation was arranged to meet with Professor Kurihara, President of the meeting and Professor Matsushita, a representative of Japanese Association for the Study and Application of the Method of Ilizarov (A.S.A.M.I.) as well as to visit Dzikei hospital well-known in Japan. The outcome of the international meeting with ASAMI members was particularly impressive when one of the former Japanese Ilizarov patients and his doctors talked about Yamaha motorcycle ride program as an expression of their gratitude to personnel of the Kurgan Center who undertake to devise effective treatment techniques. Their route stretches from Vladivostok driving through Kurgan, Moscow, European countries reaching Portugal. A Japanese broadcasting company will join them to make a documentary film about the event.
