The chamber choir of Federal State Institution – Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center “Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics” has won in All-Russia competition of choirs and groups – "Singing Russia"
…There is an unusual collective body in Kurgan – a collective body of singing medical scientists – Åñòü â ãîðîäå Êóðãàíå íåîáû÷íûé êîëëåêòèâ – êîëëåêòèâ ïîþùèõ ó÷åíûõ-ìåäèêîâ – the chamber choir of Federal State Institution – Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center "Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics". Its singularity consists in the fact, that the subjects seemed to be far from music and most of them having no special medical education sing in it. Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, Elena Viktorovna Mikhailenko, has been leading this choir collective body for 30 years.
The final round of VI All-Russia competition of academic choirs and vocal groups "SINGING RUSSIA" took place in May 17-19, 2007 in Moscow.

The chamber choir of the Ilizarov Center became the winner of the regional competition in Tomsk in April 2006, and that is why it participated, as a winner of the regional round, in the final stage in Moscow.
The 20 best collective bodies of singers from Krasnodar, Astrakhan, St. Petersburg, Lipetsk, Kurgan, Novosibirsk, Perm, Rostov, Ekaterinburg, Tomsk, Cheliabinsk came to Moscow to take part in the final round of the competition.
The procedures of competitive listening were held in the splendid concert hall of the Gnesins Russian Music Academy. The concert of the chamber choir of the Ilizarov Center took place in the town of Sergiyev Posad the day before competition, the rewarding procedure and gala-concert of the choir competition participants were held in a beautiful modern building – International House of Music, a multifunctional cultural center of Moscow, in Svetlanovsky Hall.
The fact, that physicians singing Bach participate in singing art competition with the best choir collective bodies of Russia, is a result of immense work of the collective body and its leader, Elena Mikhailenko, which is being done during the working rehearsals of the choir collective body.
Rendering of complex competitive program by the Kurgan choir collective body of singing physicians was highly appreciated by jury members, who drew attention to high level of singing skill, as well as intellectual style of rendering, the more so, as science representatives were on the stage. The competitive program of RISC “RTO” chamber choir consisted of the works of Russian classical and foreign music, those of sacred music, modern and folk songs.
Participation in the competition of All-Russia scale became an important event for the choir collective body of the scientific Center. It was a real school of choir rendering for singing medical workers. Visit to Moscow to “Singing Russia” competition became a significant event in the collective body creative life, a stage towards new achievements and victories. Concert performances and creative get-togethers with colleagues in choir art will be kept in our memory.
Making a trip to the final round of the competition has taken place thanks to comprehensive support of RISC “RTO” administration and General Director Professor Vladimir Ivanovich Shevtsov.
Singing in the choir has become for all the participants of the collective body an integral part of their life, their passion, which is impossible to be failed in, their source, from which they derive strength and inspiration for physician’s responsible work. After all, all the participants are united by one feature in common – it’s love for music, love for choir art, desire for doing the same common cause.
At present the choir collective body of RISC “RTO” has a lot of new creative plans. Next year in summer the choir collective body is going to take part in the international Olympiad of choir collective bodies in Austria, where it will get an excellent opportunity to try its strength on foreign choir collective bodies and, certainly, to show itself.
Today, people’s collective body, the academic choir of Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center “Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics” conducted by Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation Elena Mikhailenko is the only amateur collective body of the region – «the last of Mohicans», as the saying goes. The choir organized on the basis of the Kurgan Scientific-and- Research Institute of Experimental and Clinical Orthopaedics and Traumatology, still remains to be an integral part of the Ilizarov Center and continues to give audience pleasure with its concert performances owing to regular support of Center administration in the person of RISC “RTO” General Director, Corresponding member of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Honoured Scientist of the RF, Professor Vladimir Ivanovich Shevtsov, and RISC “RTO” local trade-union committee. Attention and support are felt from the regional administration, Trade Union of public health workers, the Kurgan Department of Culture, Culture and Art Committee of the Kurgan region. For its 30-year anniversary the choir collective body was rewarded with a trip to the Dalmatovsky monastery, which took place in May 30, 2007.

They say, when a person sings, his or her soul sings as well. Such people can’t be indifferent, on the contrary, they infect everybody and everything by their energy, cheerfulness and spirituality. Moreover, having come into contact with the world classical music, singing physicians sing the works of great composers and candidly like choir singing. You will admit that a patient puts more confidence in a doctor, who makes strides along the road of life with a song, presenting the people of his circle with sincere affection, the good and joy. Just patient’s smile is the best reward for a doctor, and audience general applause is the highest reward for a concert performer.
