About the performance of demonstration surgeries at Federal State Science Institution – Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center "Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics" using the complex of computer navigation developed by "CERAVER" firm ("DEOST" Scientific-and-Production Association in Poushchino is an official representative).

SPA "DEOST" the town of Poushchino (the Moscow region) specializes in design and production of the medical hardware, instrumentation and expendable materials for traumatology and orthopaedics. Today the firm actively co-operates with many treatment-and-prophylactic institutions of all the regions of Russia practically: Federal State Science Institution – "Russian Ilizarov Scientific Center "Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics" of Health Service" (Kurgan), the Central Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics (Moscow), scientific-and-research institutes in St. Petersburg, Nizhni Novgorod, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Kazan, Saratov, about 60 burn centers of the country, the Sklifosovsky and Dzhanilidze Scientific-and-Research Institute of Emergencies (Moscow).

SPA "DEOST" considers the progress and development of treatment advanced techniques in traumatology and orthopaedics to be one of the important trends of its activities.

SPA "DEOST" is an official dealer of "CERAVER" firm (France), which has developed the complex for computer navigation, «Navigator» device. The device is intended to promote setting of various metalworks, which require very precise orientation with respect to bone structures. Specialized software allows to use this device in different fields of medicine.

Unique scopes for "Navigator" complex have been demonstrated at the Ilizarov Center in May 10-11, 2007, by making, as an example, the surgeries for the knee endoprostheses setting (endoprosthetics is a surgery for replacement of the joint involved with an artificial one), as well as the device scopes in neurosurgery. Difficulty of the knee replacement surgery consists in the fact, that it is necessary to achieve the very precise orientation of each component of biomechanically complex prosthesis with respect to bone. If setting angles are incorrect, it results in endoprosthesis early wear and reduction of its durability period. The computer navigation gives the possibility to make the knee three-dimensional model without roentgen and computer tomography using, and all surgeon’s actions are demonstrated in this model accurately, thereby allowing proper endoprosthesis setting.

Application in neurosurgery gives surgeons the possibility, under the conditions of limited visibility owing to plenty of soft tissues, to insert different fixators into the spine, arranging them very precisely without the risk to damage the spine vascular and nervous structures.

For the first time in Russia the unique surgery for the knee endoprosthetics with the help of "Navigator" complex has been performed by RISC "RTO" specialists together with French surgeons on the basis of world-wide known Ilizarov Center of orthopaedics and traumatology in Kurgan, as well as the possibility has been tested to use this complex ib the process of neurosurgical operation.
