About hyperbaric oxygenation
The Centre’s department for HBO was established in 1999 and is equipped with three one place barochambers «BLKS-303 MK».
The treatment with the method of hyperbaric oxygenation using excessive oxygen pressure enables us to enhance the efficiency of complex treatment of the patients undergoing Ilizarov surgeries in cases of trauma and orthopaedic pathology, vascular and neurological disorders.
HBO is included into intensive care of various critical conditions associated with shock, polytrauma, and blood loss.
The procedure can be a part of planned treatment.
HBO is indicated for acute fractures in the cases of serious disorders in blood supply in the injured limb segment that affect formation of bone callus due to the severe fracture type, location, age, associated diseases.
Those are the following conditions:
- open and closed multiple fractures of the skeleton;
- open and closed multifragmental and double fractures;
- fractures that are accompanied by extensive damage to soft tissue, nerves or vessels
The HBO method is used to normalize the reparative process in delayed unions, osteomyelitic infection if there is a good outflow of the discharge from the wound.
In open limb fractures accompanied by extensive wounds and skin exfoliation, the HBO method is included into the complex of treatment procedures in the early post-trauma period for prevention of infection.
In order to activate metabolism and decrease hypoxia, the procedures of HBO can be performed during gradual limb lengthening not only in adults but also in children with congenital and acquired conditions.
HBO can be also included into the complex of preoperative preparation and rehabilitation period after reconstructive operations on vessels, during conservative treatment of chronic disorders in peripheral arteries, into management of closed craniocerebral injuries, ischemic brain strokes, polyneuropathy of traumatic or toxic genesis, and degenerative diseases of the spine and joints.
