Congenital anomalies of limbs
Congenital anomalies of limbs cause evident functional and cosmetic disturbances. That is why the importance of treatment of this pathology is very high. Congenital anomalies may be represented as an absence of a limb or its segments, maldevelopment of limb's segments, abnormal development of fingers or surplus growth of limb's segments.
Malformations of limbs occur once in 5000 newborns. The basic cause of congenital abnormalies are disturbances of intrauterine development, that can be related with exogenous and endogenous toxins as well as with mechanical exposure. Malformations appear at the beginning of inrauterine life when rudiment limbs start to develop.
More numerous group of congenital anomalies are partial malformations of limb's elements. The majority of this group is represented by: arthrogryposis, congenital clubfoot, congenital hip dilocation, malformation of limb's bones and defects of finger's development. |
